G M D S S P A C K A G E
The General Radio system will provide maritime and aeronautical mobile communication for normal and distress situations.
The vessel will be equipped with a GMDSS radio installations complying with the functional requirements prescribed by SOLAS Chapter IV for sea area A4.
One (1) fixed VHF and one (1) portable VHF-AM for location in “emergency bridge” will be used for short distance communication, whereas the Iridium Telephone System with pole-to-pole coverage is used for long distance communication. Convention is published by IMO, and SOLAS Chapter IV refers to the Radio Communications for all vessels at sea. GMDSS consists of several systems which are intended to perform alerting, search and rescue coordination, locating, maritime safety information broadcasts, general communication, and bridge-to-bridge communication in order to increase safety and make it easier to rescue distressed ships, boats and aircrafts.
GMDSS – Inmarsat C
The GMDSS radio installation will be equipped with Inmarsat-C Mobile Earth Station. It provides two-way data, fax and e-mail transfer to destinations worldwide. All functions and services of the Inmarsat-C system are provided including reception of broadcasted maritime safety information, and data- and position reporting to multiple destinations and time intervals. The earth station with SSAS (Ship Security Alert System) facility is intended for transmitting the security alert when the ship is under attack by pirates, terrorists, etc
GMDSS – MF/HF
The GMDSS radio installation will be equipped with MF/HF Radiotelephone which fully meets GMDSS carriage requirements. The MF/HF Radiotelephone will provide DSC (Digital Selective Call) on general communications and DSC Watch Receiver on all distress and safety frequencies in the MF and HF band.
DSC channels can be individually set or all selected channels can be automatically scanned. The radiotelephone maintains a continuous watch on distress call even while you are exchanging normal voice messages.
GMDSS – VHF
The GMDSS radio installation will be equipped with Marine VHF Radiotelephones. These are high quality, all-in-one marine VHF radiotelephones designed to comply with the GMDSS carriage requirements for safety and general communications. All the necessary functions such as VHF radiotelephone, a Class A DSC modem, instant access to CH16 and Dual Watch function are incorporated into the transceiver unit. Each VHF radio station will consist of two antennas, a transceiver unit and a handset.
GMDSS – Navtex
The Navtex onboard the vessel is designed for SOLAS ships complying with the Navtex performance standard stated by IMO. A tri-channel NAV7 Navtex receiver, which enhances the navigation efficiency and safety by watching Navtex messages broadcasted on both international and local channels, will be provided. These messages include a variety of safety information such as navigational warnings, meteorological warnings, search and rescue information and other information for ships sailing within the reach of each service station’s coverage. The Navtex will consist of an antenna unit, a receiver, and a display unit.
GMDSS – Emergency Transmitters and Beacons
The vessel will be equipped with EPIRBs (Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons), one float free and one manual, which will start transmitting vessel identity and positioning signals to the COSPAS/SARSAT satellites when activated. The signals will be transferred to the right control centre which co-ordinate the rescue operation. The vessel will also be equipped with two SARTs (Search and Rescue Radar Transponders), which gives the exact location of the distressed vessel indicated on the X-band radar display of any nearby ship, SAR vessels and aircrafts.
GMDSS – Portable VHF
The portable GMDSS VHFs onboard the vessel are to be used in emergency situations and are designed to cope with the toughest marine environments.
The vessel will be equipped with portable GMDSS VHFs, which are waterproof and delivered with Lithium battery and wrist strap.
